How it works
- Paste your text into the box above, or click Upload for a PDF, Word, EPUB, text or image file.
- Choose a language and voice.
- Press play. Adjust speed or pitch in the player if you want it faster or slower.
What can it read out loud?
Anything you can paste: articles, emails, essays, study notes, scripts. You can also upload PDF, Word (.docx), EPUB, plain text, Markdown and image files up to 10 MB on the free tier.
Scanned pages and photos of text are converted with OCR in your browser before they're read aloud.
Is there a length limit?
Free cloud voices read up to 5,000 characters per conversion, roughly a page and a half of dense text. Local voices run in your browser after a one-time model download and have no character limit.
Lifetime Boost raises cloud conversions to 1,000,000 characters and adds MP3 download. Subscriptions add premium Neural2, WaveNet and Gemini voices.
Who uses a text to speech reader?
Students listening to readings, writers proofreading their own drafts, people with dyslexia or low vision, language learners, and anyone whose eyes are done with screens for the day.
